The COGENT package contains two programs, the model editor and the project manager. Once COGENT has been set up on a PC, both these programs should be seen in the menu which appears when the you click on the Start button.
The model editor allows you create and edit cognitive models. When the model editor is started a new, empty, model is created. This model consists of a single empty compound box to which the user may add subboxes and arrows as described in the documentation for compound boxes.
N.B. the model will not be permanently saved on disc until the user select the File->Save or File->Save As menu options.
The project manager allows you to group these models into research programmes.
In order to run a model the Model Editor needs to locate a suitable version of Prolog and the set of Prolog Source files defining the OOS (Object Oriented Sceptic) kernel. These should automatically be set to appropriate locations. However, to make sure that these have been correctly set, select the Run->Options item from the Model Editor's main menu and use the run options dialog that then appears to set the Prolog .exe file and the OOS kernel file. A window such as that in figure 1 should appear.

At present the only Prolog that can be used with the Model Editor is the console version of SWI Prolog. For instructions on how to download, install, and use SWI Prolog see the web site http://www.swi.psy.uva.nl/projects/xpce/SWI-Prolog.html. The console version of SWI prolog is named PLCON.exe and can be found in the Bin sub-folder of the folder in which you installed SWI prolog. The OOS Kernel file is named Oos.pl and should be found in Program sub-folder of the folder in which you installed Cogent.
