Windows Cogent stores models and project in a different format to Unix Cogent. Both projects and models may be converted from Unix format to Windows format.

Importing projects using the Project Manager

In order to import an individual model into the Windows Cogent Model editor you must first make sure you understand how Unix cogent stores projects and models, as explained below.

A project may be imported as follows:

1. Start the Project Manager
2. Select the File Import menu item.
3. You are then asked to select a file in which the project will be saved (as a ".prj" file) after it has been converted. The Windows Cogent models that are created during the conversion process will be stored in the same folder as the "prj" file that stores the project. It is advisable to create a new folder in which to store the converted project and its associated model files.
4. You are then asked to select the top level folder of the Unix project. This would be the folder MedicalDiagnosis in the example shown in figure 2.

The project and the models it contains will then be converted. Warning The format of Unix Cogent projects and models has changed over the years, Windows Cogent attempts to recognise old Unix formats where possible but it is advisable to use the Unix Project manager to convert your project to the latest Unix Cogent format before converting it to Windows format.

In order to import an individual model into the Windows Cogent Model editor you must first make sure you understand how Unix cogent stores projects and models, as explained below.

The procedure used to import a model is as follows.

1. Start the Model Editor
2. Select the File->Import menu item.
3. A dialog then appears allowing you to select the folder containing the top level box of the model that you wish to import. This folder should have a nine figure name. For example in the project shown in figure 1 below, you might select the folder 831280949.
4. The Unix Cogent model is then imported into the Model Editor. However it is important to note that at at this stage it has not been saved to a file. To save the model as a file in Windows format select the File->Save or File->Save As ... menu items.

How Unix COGENT stores projects and models

Unix cogent stores projects and models as a hierarchy of files as indcated in figure 1 below.

The project's top level folder, which in figure 2 is the folder MedicalDiagnosis, contains a file called history along with various folders with nine figure names which contain the project's models.
